I am a freelance writer, editor and web designer, currently available for work. I love working with creatives, NFPs, and social enterprises.

I strive to bring creativity, empathy and technical awareness to everything I do.

Creative Coaching

I love talking people through their creative process. If you work with me, I can help you talk through big things like career goals, or smaller things, like how to get your short story unstuck. If you need help with accountability, systems or story submission strategies, you’re not alone.

We will do it online at a time that suits you, and I’ll use Miro to map out what we talk about, so you come away with a visual plan of your next steps.

Payment is via a sliding scale, depending on your financial possibilities.

Guan is an incredible guide and teacher for both beginning and advanced writers and creatives. He is thoughtful, curious, supportive, and VERY insightful. He doesn’t so much lead you to the answers as he walks alongside you, asking the best questions to help you unearth new possibilities for your work and your vision.

Writing

• As a speculative fiction writer with seventeen published stories, I have been nominated for an Aurealis Award, featured in Year’s Best Fantasy, and had my work read by LeVar Burton (of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame) on his fiction podcast, LeVar Burton Reads.
• I have been a contributing writer, book reviewer, and journalist.
• I wrote a book called Anxiety and Me, published by Matthias Media, a reflection on faith, anxiety, and Psalm 131.
• I really love sentences. I have a newsletter about them.

Editing

• As a freelance editor of fifteen years, I have worked with clients like The Salvation Army, Mohr Siebeck, Youthworks Media, on everything from promotional materials to complex booklength projects.
• I am an associate editor for ECO24: Year’s Best Speculative Ecofiction, ed. Marissa Van Uden, from Violet Lichen Press.
• I have been known to proofread my friend’s theses for fun.

Web Design/Development

I have over nine years experience as a full stack web developer. I love and use Astro day-to-day. But also have (deep breath) Inertia, AngularJS, Ruby on Rails, Typescript, React, MySQL in my toolbox.

I specialise in making websites for normal people and non-profits that load fast, look great on mobile, and focus on content.

I learn new systems quickly and am good at explaining them to other people in normal-person-language.
